King of the ‘Pin – Catch & Release

King of the ‘Pin – Catch & Release

Austackle is proud to introduce a Catch & Release Category to the hugely popular Sundowners Fishing Club “King of the ‘Pin” competition. This is a new concept for the 2016 event, which has been running for OVER 30 years as a Deadweight Competition. Catch, Photograph & Release practices align well with Austackle’s general support and promotion of sustainable fishing practices. Here’s an overview of how it works: Competitors will be given an Austackle Brag Mat to use during the event, along with a name tag to include in the photos, and a score sheet. All you need is a camera with an SD card to present the photos at check in, with your scoresheet. Anglers can use both baits, and or lures, and trolling is permitted (one rod per angler) The points awarded for fish caught will be 1 point per centimetre length of the 3 longest LEGAL fish caught of the targeted species. To enter, simply purchase an entry ticket (locations listed below), select “Catch & Release”, and then present your ticket for registration and briefing at the Gem Hotel on Friday the 27th of May. All the competition details will be covered at the briefing, and competition rules can be viewed on the “King of the ‘Pin” Facebook page and Sundowners Fishing Club website. Austackle and King of The ‘Pin welcome you to get involved in what is sure to be a fantastic weekend of fishing, with some great prizes on offer for the winning anglers! We hope to see you there!   Tracey Mammen & Michael Cole Joint Tournament Directors     TIMETABLE Friday 27th May ...
River 949fm Team Campo vs Team Snowy Fishing Challenge

River 949fm Team Campo vs Team Snowy Fishing Challenge

Austackle joined forces with Charlton’s Fishing and radio station River 949FM to instigate a Great Fish Off between 949 announcers Paul “Campo” Campion and Graham “Snowy” Snow. The eagerly awaited event took place at QlD’s Maroon Dam on Saturday 23rd April 2016.   Firstly…travel back to November, where the idea for the fishing challenge was first hatched. Learn about the back story here: http://www.austackle.com/lures/new-lures-with-a-back-story/ With Breakfast Show Co-Host Marnie out on Maternity leave, Snowy jumped at the chance to join in on the fun. So began the banter between Campo and Snowy. It quickly escalated…WHO would be the better angler: Campo, or Snowy?   Campo and Snowy each recruited 2 River 949 listeners each to their respective Teams. Austackle supplied 4 boats and skippers along with all the fishing tackle and lures needed for the day, including “Campo” CAMOSTIKS and Marnie dedicated SPIRIT Rods.  In order to keep a level playing field, each team was kitted out with exactly the same type of lures. The pre-comp banter marked a day of comedic rivalry, and as anticipated, all hilarity ensued! Each contestant walked away with close to $1000 of Austackle gear, and Snowy and Campo fought it out for the Special Edition Gold Camostik Pro/M2500 Combo along with the highly coveted FIRST PLACE and bragging rights for the title of Champ! Second Place would receive a Special Edition Silver CamoStik Pro/Verto Combo as runner up. Bjelke-Petersen Dam hosts Fishing Comp: 15th-17th January

Bjelke-Petersen Dam hosts Fishing Comp: 15th-17th January

Heads up! If you’re withing range of the South Burnett Region in QLD on the 15th – 17th of January,  Yallakool Caravan Park on Bjelke-Petersen Dam will be playing host to Round 3 of the Austackle-Bluefin Country Fishing Classics.   The event welcomes anglers of all ages and skill level and there’s a big focus on FUN and participation. Every child takes home a prize, and there are countless random draw prize giveaways to the tune of $120,000 over the entire series including a Bluefin Boat / Evinrude Boat package to be given away at the Grand Final! All you need to do to qualify for the Grand Final is to have competed in one round.  Results count only for bragging rights.   The event aims to promote awareness of sustainable fishing practices, and anglers can enter in one of two categories:  Catch, Photograph and Release,  or a Deadweight section (only one fish per species may be presented for weigh in). Anglers can fish using lures and/or baits. Trolling (one line per angler) is permitted. Target Species are:  Australian Bass,  Golden Perch and Catfish.   Fishing has reportedly been red hot, and there are heaps of other non-fishing related activities to do at the Dam if you want to mix it up.  Skiing/ tubing, catching red claw, or a dip in the pool are just some of the options favored by Yallakool’s guests. So grab some family and friends and come along and join in the fun!   Click on the photo below for a link to the details and entry...
